Today we’re talking PRODUCTIVITY. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may have seen my recent productivity tip about scheduling and routine. In this video, I’m going to expand on that concept. Something you need to know about me. I love getting shit done. Who doesn’t?
Raise your hand if you love checking shit off your to-do list.
If your hand is not raised, you should just go.
My #1 tip for increasing productivity and checking more rewarding tasks off your list each day is to define your schedule, define your routine and stick to it 90% of the time.
Ok, so I know you’ve heard this about zillion times, but I want to flip up this process a bit.
Are you one of those people who wakes up, rinses off (cuz who has time for real showers), and runs out the door? Is that the person you want to be? OF COURSE NOT.
You want to be the kind of boss lady who wakes up, checks social media, reads a few emails, sends your mom a thoughtful article (proving how smart you are and oh didn’t she notice the early morning time stamp? Because you’re not a total failure of a daughter), you work out, shower, make avocado toast or some other fancy breakfast, drink coffee BEFORE WORK, and goes to work on time.
That’s the dream right? You’re so freaking set in the morning that nothing can stop you. So let’s get you there. Reverse the day. In order to get you to your dream day, what do you need to do? For me, while working full time for the man, it meant I needed to get up about 3 hours before work. In those three hours, I did all that fancy stuff I mentioned. Today, I still get up around the same time, but my routine is slightly different. Start by making a list of the following:
- What must you absolutely accomplish each day to feel like a rockstar?
- When do you want to accomplish those tasks?
- How much time do you need each day for just yourself?
- How much time do you need each day for unexpected interruptions? (cough cat hangs cough)
This gives you an idea of your day. Next, use some kind of dope productivity app to help you reach your goals. Personally, I use Asana and I know this sounds like overkill, but I absolutely have a task on there that says “workout” and it repeats 5 days a week and I love checking it off. Make lists and tasks that recur to help you stay on track. So remember how I said 90% of the time? Schedule you’re friggen down time! For example, I don’t workout every day, I take some time off. Those days off are built right into my friggen schedule. But you know what I do on my days off? I don’t just sleep in. I still get up, but I do a different project, like water plants. Alright, I know I’ve probably totally freaked you out, but I promise this is hands down what has made me kick ass and feel fabulous day in and day out. Get organized, reverse engineer your perfect day, become a productivity blackbelt.
